The 1997 Hyundai Tiburon was a sports coupe, built on similar lines of Elantra sedan. But, it had a shorter 3-inch wheelbase than the Elantra sedan and gained its own tailgate styling. It got two editions such as base and FX.
1997 Hyundai Tiburon Base Variant
Base edition got a 2.0-liter V4 engine, produced 140-horse power that directed to rear wheels. It used a standard 5-speed manual gear box, and an optional 4-speed automatic transmission that had Power and Normal shift modes. It was designed for rear-wheel drive.
Essentially, the coil-spring suspension setup of the 1997 Hyundai Tiburon was the same as the setup that was mounted on the Elantra. It had also been equipped with the front-disc/rear-drum brakes and the front-disc/rear-drum brakes, which were borrowed from Elantra.
Striking Features
The 1997 Hyundai Tiburon had an antilock breaking system, which contained rear discs as a substitute to drums. It was also equipped with standard dual front airbags, air conditioned interior, remote-control mirrors, power windows, tilt steering wheel, a tachometer, 50/50 split folding rear seat, a roller-blind cargo cover, and FM /AM cassette stereo. The 1997 Hyundai Tiburon had good handling and steering capacity, and extraordinary fuel economy.
